First round table on digitalization in special foundation engineering“
The first round table on digitalization in special foundation engineering was held in Munich on May 23, 2019. It was organized by fielddata.io GmbH, a specialist in construction data management platforms.
Munich, May 29, 2019 | fielddata.io GmbH organized the first round table on digitalization in special foundation engineering in Munich. The round table focused on the challenges of digitalization, which must be addressed by special foundation engineering companies and equipment manufacturers alike.
Level of digitalization at special foundation engineering companies
After an extensive round of introductions, during which each attendee was asked to assess the current level of digitalization and the expected level of digitalization at his or her company in three years, it became clear which areas of digitalization would play a major role in the industry over the next few years.
Interfaces for ensuring seamlessly digitalized processes were a very hot topic, alongside other topics such as BIM, standardization and data rights. Most of the equipment fleets of special foundation engineering companies consist of machinery from different manufacturers. As a result of this lack of standardization, these machines also supply different data in different ways. This results in an enormous amount of additional work for project managers and fleet managers, especially when it comes to construction site documentation.
The future of digitalization in special foundation engineering
Marcus Daubner (Head of Digital Construction at BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH) made it clear in his keynote speech that digitalization is a process that is constantly advancing and unavoidable. Just a few years ago, most people did not know what an app is. Today, smartphones and apps have become an indispensable part of our everyday lives.
During the discussion that followed, it became clear that many topics relating to digitalization in specialist foundation engineering still need to be defined and there is no entity responsible for overseeing them. Machine manufacturers and contractors are currently trying to digitalize their processes on their own. However, it would be helpful to find a common path forward, especially in the area of machine data and interfaces.
Save the date: The next fielddata.io round table
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Daubner for his presentation as well as everyone who attended the first "Digitalization in Special Foundation Engineering" round table. fielddata.io enjoyed the open discussion and the highly constructive dialogue. For this reason, we would like to organize another round table. The next round table is scheduled for November 2019 in Frankfurt. We will keep you up to date with the latest news in our newsletter.
